Ladder Tournament Rules & Guidelines, May 2010

Ladder Tournament Draws

The SDTF Singles Ladder Tournament is open to all active participants on the SDTF ladder.  All members who are interested in playing the tournament must notify the Ladder Chair no later than Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at midnight.  The tournament will begin Friday, May 7, 2010, and will continue until all matches have been completed.

The tournament will be divided up into Tiers in the same format as the ladder.  Each tier will have its own draw.  Seeds will be determined based on number of participants and will be established at the discretion of the Ladder Chair.  The tournament will be single elimination with a consolation round for any players who lose first round.

The format of play will be similar to that of regular ladder play.  All matches will be regular scoring, best two out of three sets with a 12-point tie-breaker at 6 all.  The person who is in the lower ladder position is responsible for providing balls for the match.

Once the draws have been published, each player should work to schedule their match as quickly as possible, and under no circumstances should a match not be scheduled and played within 10 days. The person in the lower ladder position is responsible for initiating first contact to schedule the match.  The Ladder Chair will act as intermediary to resolve any scheduling conflicts to the best of his ability, and should a match fail to be played on time, the Ladder Chair will use his best discretion to determine who moves forward in the tournament and who takes a default.

As this is a ladder event, ladder points will be awarded and ladder positions will be updated.  As an example, if you are on Tier 3 in position 27 and you play the person in position 15, you will move up to the #15 spot even though this person was more than 6 spots above you on the ladder.  Since there is no challenger and challengee, the points awarded will be modified from the normal ladder structure.  A tournament participant who wins will receive 8 points, and a tournament participant who loses will receive 4 points.  A bonus of 10 points will be awarded to the winner of each tier and 5 bonus points to the finalist and consolation winner.
