  Team Tennis Spring 2010: Penalties
  1. If a roster player is absent from a line up due to participation in a GLTA tournament that conflicts with the Team Tennis schedule, then the affected teams will be allowed replacements that week WITHOUT being subject to the following penalties. The subject player must be a verifiable entrant in the GLTA tournament.

  2. Default time is 15 minutes from the time a court is available for play. USTA point penalties are in effect up until that time.

  3. The same player must play both singles and doubles. If a player is unable to play his scheduled first match, a default is issued. A player cannot play his second match after being defaulted in his first match; an automatic default is issued for the second match.

  4. Defaults will be charged as follows: In singles, the player(s) who shows up for the match will be awarded 1 point for a singles match win, and 1½ points for a doubles match. They will not, however, receive any games for the default. The match will be recorded as 0-0 games won. This is to insure that teams do not suffer two penalties for defaults.

  5. In the event that a player has been defaulted, Team Captains are strongly encouraged to allow the players to play their match(es) for the benefit of the players who have made an effort to participate. Even though the scores will be reported as defaults, players should be allowed to play whenever possible.

  6. If a player begins his match and is unable or unwilling to complete it, his team receives the number of games he has won up to that point, and his opponent(s) are awarded 1 point for the singles match and 6 games, and/or 1½ points for the doubles match and 8 games.

  7. During the regular season, each team is allowed 1 alternate per match, without penalty. Penalties will be assessed to the team's match score as follows:
    1. 2 alternates = subtract ½ a point from the final score
    2. 3 alternates = subtract 1 point from the final score
    3. 4 alternates = subtract 1 ½ points from the final score, and so on.

  8. During the playoffs, penalties for alternates will be assigned as follows:
    1. 1 alternate = subtract 1 point from the final score
    2. 2 alternates = subtract 2 points from the final score
    3. 3 alternates = subtract 3 points from the final score, and so on.
