Joining the San Diego Tennis Federation - aka "SDTF" or just "The Federation" - is a simple process that can be completed online in less than 15 minutes. Just fill out the application form and then pay the yearly membership fee either through Venmo, PayPal, debit/credit card, or by check.
Membership is just $48 per year starting from January to December. If you join later in the year, your membership fee is prorated according to the month that you join. There is also a $12 initiation fee for new members and those whose memberships have lapsed. (There is no initiation fee for renewing members who pay their membership dues before the annual renewal date.)
Note: The SDTF has been a completely volunteer-run - in other words, no one gets paid - non-profit since it was founded in 1983. Yearly membership fees help offset court and ball costs, our insurance policy (needed to reserve courts for teams and tournaments), and of course this website.
The SDTF provides its members several opportunities a week to play or practice tennis in an organized and fun environment and puts on and participates in several major tournaments a year, including the annual San Diego Open each July, one of the largest tennis tournaments of its kind. SDTF is part of both the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and the Gay & Lesbian Tennis Association (GLTA), and our members participate in GLTA and USTA tournaments throughout California, the United States, and internationally.
We're confident that you'll find the Federation to be a fun and fulfilling place to indulge your passion for tennis. We welcome all levels, from beginners to the most experienced "open" players. In fact, a lot of our top players got their start playing tennis with us as beginners.
And, of course, we are also about having a good - no, a GREAT - time! The Federation hosts several fun-filled activities throughout the year where you can socialize with fellow members and meet new friends, including field trips, parties and an annual awards banquet.
The SDTF is also about helping our community beyond the tennis court. Many of our events - including the San Diego Open, the AIDS Walk, the Holiday Party Raffle, and other fundraisers - generate money that goes directly to non-profit agencies serving the local LGBT community.
